Ben Hassing is Senior Vice President of E-Commerce and Technology for Walmart China. He leads the Sam’s Club, Walmart and Cross Border digital businesses in China. He recently was given oversight of the Walmart’s Technology division in order to hasten the company’s move towards digital. Hassing was previously the Chief Merchandising Officer of Yihaodian.com. In 2016, Walmart divested Yihaodian to JD.com in exchange for shares and has since upped its stake to nearly 13%. Walmart also holds a minority stake in New DaDa (the parent company of Dao Jia O2O platform). Hassing has been with Walmart for over fourteen years. Before relocating to China from the United States, he was Senior Vice President of the West division. There he was general manager of Walmart’s store operations spanning thirteen states with a of 650 stores and 200,000 associates. He has held a number of other leadership roles across various functions including Merchandising, Finance, Operations, and Strategic Planning. He holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and a Bachelor’s of Arts and Sciences degree in History from Temple University.
